Aircel is planning to launch 4G service in its key markets over the next three to six months. After Bharti Airtel, it would be the second operator to introduce these services in the country.
To begin with, Aircel plans to launch 4G services first in Chennai following which the operator would extend the service in other major cities as well. With a 20 per cent market share, Chennai is a priority market for Aircel.
Currently, the service provider is in talks with a number of banks to obtain funding for rolling out 4G services. With an eye on expanding its reach in the country, Aircel has recently tied-up with operators such as Reliance Communications and TATA DOCOMO. Through these network sharing tie-ups, Aircel is well-positioned to provide seamless data services to users even in circles where it does not hold a 3G licence.
