Aircel has launched 4G services in the circles of Tamil Nadu and Jammu & Kashmir. With this launch, the operator has become the first private telecom operator to roll out 2G, 3G and 4G network in these circles.

Aircel had earlier introduced these services in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar and Odisha circles. It is the second company after Airtel to introduce 4G services in India. Aircel holds 20 MHz of spectrum in the 2300 MHz band, used for 4G services, across eight circles in the country.

The companies with spectrum in 2300 MHz band are required to provide services in at least 90 per cent of the service areas by 2015 under the rollout obligation norms, failure to which will lead to cancellation of licence by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Aircel now needs to launch these circles only in the West Bengal and North East circles before the deadline of rollout obligations.
