Aircel has entered into a strategic partnership with the handset manufacturer, Micromax. As part of the deal, the two companies will share their channel and retail networks, sales resources and launch an integrated device sales activation program.

In addition, Aircel is also going to offer bundled voice and data plans to 2G and 3G users buying Micromax handsets. For example, a 3G subscriber buying a new Micromax handset will be charged Re 0.01 per two seconds for calls within Aircel?s network, Re 0.02 per second for calls on other networks. Further, users will get 2 GB of data usage free for a period of three months, free WAP content worth Rs 10,000 for three months along with free access to the internet TV application (Popcorn TV) for three months.

Commenting on the tie-up, Anupam Vasudev, chief marketing officer, Aircel, says, ?India is at the cusp of a data revolution and device tie-ups will strengthen the telecom ecosystem in the country, which is critical to drive data penetration.  Increasing availability of affordable devices will lead to data proliferation which will be the key revenue generator for both telecom operators as well as handset manufacturers in the near future.?
