The All India Graduate Engineers and Telecom Officers Association (AIGETOA) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), has requested the government to engage independent auditors for assessing the value of BSNL’s land assets.

The move comes after the government recently announced its plans to transfer the land assets and loans of BSNL to a special purpose vehicle.

AIGETOA has demanded a performance audit to be made mandatory for all projects worth more than Rs 1 billion. The association wants the government to shut down loss-making exchanges of BSNL and shift the focus from copper-based landline business to fibre-to-home business.

Further, the AIGETOA has asked the government to grant full autonomy to BSNL board for ensuring smooth functioning of the company.
