Chief executive officer (CEO), Google, while addressing the India AI Impact Summit, described artificial intelligence (AI) as the biggest platform shift of the lifetimes and a technology that demonstrates how far humanity can progress when it thinks ambitiously.

He underscored India’s rising importance in the global AI ecosystem and pointed to the emergence of Visakhapatnam as a growing AI hub, noting that the city has evolved into a major centre for AI following significant investments by Google as part of its long-term India strategy.

Speaking at the summit, he said AI represents a transformative technological shift with the potential to accelerate development across sectors and enable emerging economies to progress faster.

He cited AI’s expanding role in scientific research as a key reason for optimism, highlighting how recent breakthroughs—recognised with a Nobel Prize—have condensed decades of research into open databases accessible globally.

He added that AI is increasingly being deployed across the scientific ecosystem, from identifying DNA disease markers to developing AI agents that can function as research partners.

Further, he emphasised that AI can drive innovation, unlock new opportunities and help tackle global challenges, while stressing the importance of responsible and inclusive development so that the benefits of the technology are widely shared.
