According to Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister for Telecommunications and Electronics and Information Technology, artificial intelligence (AI) has enormous potential to generate development and bring equity and delivery in India. Further, Prasad added that, the government wants AI to further promote the digital inclusion character of the digital India.

Prasad was speaking at recent AI summit, Raise 2020, organised by the government of India.

Meanwhile, in the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stressed on responsible use of AI and protecting the world against weaponisation of AI by non-state actors. He added that, AI has a big role to play in sectors like agriculture, creating next generation urban infrastructure and making disaster management systems stronger.

Further, speaking on India’s broadband coverage, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) said that BharatNet project to create a pan-India optical fibre network will put India among the top nations in fixed broadband. Ambani added that, India has delivered 4G broadband coverage, to more than 99 per cent of citizens and has gone from 155th in the world to number one in mobile data consumption. According to him, India will maintain its leadership position in terms or data consumption even in the 5G landscape.
