Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court heard the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) plea in regard to the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) case. Slamming the telcos and DoT for undertaking self assessment process, the Supreme Court’s bench stated that no further objections to its orders would be allowed against payable dues.

In its order, the three-judge bench comprising Justice Arun Mishra and Justice S Abdul Nazeer and Justice MR Shah held that no self-assessment can be done. The SC order has stated that actions of telcos are tantamount to seeking to bypass the court’s judgement. All dues as per our judgement will have to be paid, including interest and penalty. The apex court has stated that it does not appreciate telcos’ actions and will hold MDs personally accountable.

That said, the bench has stated that the Solicitor General’s plea seeking reasonable time will be considered at the next hearing in two weeks. “Our judgement on AGR dues is full and final, it should be followed in letter and spirit,” the Supeme Court said.
