Aditya Birla Telecom is in the process of demerging the licence for the Bihar and Jharkhand circle and merging it with the parent company, Idea Cellular. It has already filed for a “scheme of arrangement” with the Bombay High Court after obtaining the necessary regulatory clearances. The move is aimed at making Idea the umbrella company for the group’s telecom operations, with licences for all 22 circles. At present, only 19 circles are under Idea’s purview. The Punjab and Karnataka circles, which came in with the acquisition of Spice Communications, will come under its control by end-2009 once all regulatory clearances are received.
