The Adani Group, which had bought spectrum in the millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum band during the 5G spectrum auctions held in 2022, is likely to miss year-one 5G roll-out obligations set by the central government. As per industry reports, this may be due to a lack of suitable mmWave use cases.

Earlier, in August 2022, Adani Data Networks, a unit of Adani Group, bought mmWave spectrum during the 5G auctions. Further, Adani Data Networks is reportedly planning to approach the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to seek additional time to meet roll-out obligations whose deadline is August 2023.

During a recent meeting held with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to know the status of roll-out obligations, the Adani Group stated that it has too little spectrum i.e. 50-100 MHz, so, it was unable to find suitable use-cases to roll-out any kind of services.
