According to news reports, DoT is unlikely to accept the Telecom A Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) proposal on the entry licence fee and reduction in revenue share under the unified licensing proposal. DoT feels it will create a non-level playing field between the existing and new players. It also believes that the proposed cut in entry fee to Rs 1.07 billion for a unified licence to offer all kinds of services including telecom and broadcasting may put existing operators in a disadvantageous position, as many of them have already paid Rs 20 billion as licence fee.
