The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has extended A. Robert J. Ravi’s additional charge as chairman and managing director (CMD) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) by a further three months, effective April 15, 2026.
Ravi was first assigned the additional charge on July 13, 2024, while serving as deputy director general (standards, research and innovation) at the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
The DoT had earlier extended his tenure by six months in October 2025.
A 1990-batch Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officer, Ravi has overseen a turnaround at the state-run telcos, marked by improved operating profits and higher average revenue per user (ARPU). During his tenure, BSNL, in partnership with a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)-led consortium, deployed around 0.1 million next-generation 4G sites.
