According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the number of mobile number portability (MNP) requests increased from 97.82 million subscribers at the end of July 2013 to 100.20 million at the end of August 2013. In the month of August 2013 about 2.37 million subscribers approached their operators with MNP requests.

The maximum MNP requests were received from MNP Zone-I (Northern and Western India) – 9.85 million and 8.67 million subscribers in Rajasthan and Gujarat opted for MNP respectively. In Zone-II (Southern and Eastern India) maximum number of requests have been made by subscribers in Karnataka (11.65 million) followed by Andhra Pradesh (9.08 million).
