He believes that India is witnessing a growing convergence of technology, media and communication, which is opening up several new opportunities. “The exponential growth in data consumption and the ever-increasing demand for video content have led to an increase in OFC deployments. In fact, 2019-20 saw significant fibre installations, both in the backhaul and in the last mile. Telcos have launched major fibre initiatives. Towers and small cells are getting fiberised to meet the 4G/5G requirements. Robust OFC networks are central to flagship government programmes such as BharatNet, Digital India and the Smart Cities Mission. The government has also released the National Digital Communications Policy, 2018, which aims to provide high speed, affordable and seamless connectivity everywhere. The government is also focusing on covering semi-urban and rural areas with Wi-Fi connectivity,” he notes.
He has an MBA from Drexel University, USA. He worked in the US before joining the family business in 2002. Coming from a business family ensured that he had exposure to a business environment right from his childhood. “My work experience abroad helped me in further amalgamating family values with global trends to derive a winning formula for growth,” he says.
As for his management style, he believes in being transparent with his subordinates and always has their interests at the centre. He ensures that employees get the right training to acquire skills that make them more capable and productive.
He is an avid reader and traveller. “While reading allows me to know more about everything, travelling allows me to experience places, cultures and cuisines,” he says. His favourite stress buster is playing badminton. “A good game refreshes my mind and body, giving me clear head space for sharper thinking.”
