
Research In Motion (RIM) has told the Government that imposing a ban on their services will be counterproductive and futile, as individual who wanted to misuse Internet encrypted technology will shift to any one of other numerous and freely available options. Instead, it has suggested that a joint consultative forum comprising of representatives from the government, users and service providers? communities be formed to evolve procedures to intercept these popular services.
In a letter to K. M. Chandrasekhar, cabinet secretary, RIM refused to provide an intercepting technology for its BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), saying it had provided other options to the country?s law enforcement agencies.
