The Tamil Nadu government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) to boost the space sector in the state. The MoU will describe a framework including the modalities, terms and conditions by which space industries will be encouraged and establish manufacturing units in Tamil Nadu. IN-SPACe will also help the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) in establishing a centre of excellence (CoE) for the space sector.
The proposed interventions will focus on enabling start-ups and established companies in launch manufacturing-related activities, launch-related services, launch design and research and development, strategic electronics manufacturing, and space-grade component manufacturing among others. These would enable the country to have a large share of the global space industry, across upstream, midstream and downstream industries.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. Pawan Kumar Goenka, chairman, IN-SPACe, and Thiru Shiv Das Meena I.A.S., chief secretary to the government of Tamil Nadu. The MoU was exchanged by Thiru. Sandeep Nanduri I.A.S, managing director, TIDCO, and Thiru. Lochan Sehra, I.A.S., joint secretary, IN-SPACe.
