According to M Pradeep Kumar, district collector and district magistrate, Trichy, work under the BharatNet project has been completed in 401 out of 404 villages in the district. The project implemented by Tamil Nadu Fibre Net Corporation Limited involves routing 85 per cent of the optical fibre cables (OFC) through the existing electrical poles with the remaining 15 per cent laid underground.
However, Kumar informed in a statement that the project is facing opposition in three villages as a section of people are opposing the installation of poles for OFC on their lands. The collector stressed that the OFC will not transmit electricity and will not pose harm to crops.
As per Kumar, the successful completion of the project promises a better future for everyone, ensuring villages in the district will have access to high-speed internet connectivity.
