P.K. Purwar has been given additional charge as chairman and managing director (CMD) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). As per the order of the Department of Telecommunications, Purwar will be serving in this position for a period of three months starting July 1, 2019 or till the appointment of a regular incumbent to the post or until further orders, whichever is earliest, subject to the approval of the appointments committee of the cabinet (ACC). The move has been undertaken as an interim measure to ensure continuity in BSNL’s operations after Anupam Shrivastava retired as BSNL’s CMD upon superannuation on June 30, 2019. Purwar will continue to serve in his current capacity as CMD of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).
