Rana Kapoor, Managing Director and CEO, YES Bank

A  career banker and professional entrepreneur, Rana Kapoor established YES Bank in November 2003. Under his leadership, the bank has ev­olv­ed steadily as a bank for professionals, and has demonstrated noteworthy business and financial outcomes since its inception.

The bank is committed to supporting sustainable growth and development of sunrise sectors, including renewable energy. In February 2015, it raised green infrastructure bonds worth $160 million, the country’s first such green issue. At the first Renewable Energy Global Investors Meet & Expo (RE-Invest 2015) organised by the Ministry of New and Ren­e­­wable Energy, YES Bank made a commitment to fund 5,000 MW of renewable energy projects. The funds raised via the bond issue will be utilised towards this.

Prior to establishing YES Bank, Kapoor was chief executive officer and managing director, as well as the main managing partner of Rabo India Finance Private Limited. He successfully spearheaded Rabo India Finance as a foreign joint venture financial services organisation in partnership with Rabobank in India, building the company as a professional entrepreneur from 1998 to 2003. In early 2003, he sold his shareholdings to Rabobank, Netherlands.

Prior to joining Rabo India, he was general manager and country head at ANZ Grindlays Investment Bank from 1996 to 1998. Kapoor worked for about 15 years with the Bank of America, where he last headed its wholesale banking business.

A graduate in economics from Delhi University, Kapoor also has an MBA from Rutgers University, USA, where he received the president’s medal. He also received an honorary fellowship from the All India Management Association and a doctorate in science from ­G.B. Pant Uni­ver­sity of Agriculture and Technology for his contribution to the food and agri-business sector.

Kapoor has been conferred a number of awards and recognitions. He was recently felicitated by the Bombay Stock Exchange. He was also honoured for his contribution towards promoting India-Canada bilateral relations by the High Commission of Canada and the Indo-Cana­dian­ Business Chamber. Kap­oor was also presented the ­C. Ranga­rajan Award for Ex­cell­ence in Banking at the 38th SKOCH Summit; the Vision­ary Business Leader of the Year Award at the Legal Era Business Excellence Awards 2015; and the Best Business Innovator Award at the Asia Business Leadership Forum.
