The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Google have announced their collaboration on cyber safety where Google will work on amplifying its ‘Stay Safe Online’ campaign. The company is set to release a series of videos featuring YouTube creators, to educate users on how to share information online responsibly. The series will also dive into specific skills required for a better evaluation of the information quality available online.

Creators will be required to shed light on how to establish the credentials of the source and understand their motivations, corroborate content with subject-matter experts and gather cited and verifiable evidence. YouTube also established a digital literacy program called ‘Hit Pause’ to promote critical thinking online.

With over 700 million Indian internet users, there is a requirement for ensuring that the internet is inclusive and safe for all, stated Sanjay Gupta, vice president of Google India. He also added that Google made it a top priority to ensure a safe and helpful internet experience while supporting India’s digital growth. Google will also launch the ‘Be Internet Awesome’ program for sharing helpful content on a diverse range of safety topics online. These will be shared across Google Safety Centre which will serve as a single destination for educating users on the importance of digital safety, in eight Indian languages.
