The government has launched a competition for companies that generate free and open source software (FOSS), in order to promote such development in the country.
The FOSS4Gov Innovation Challenge will be administered through the government’s citizen portal MyGov.
During the launch, Ashwini Vaishnaw, union minister for electronic and IT, telecommunications, and railways, stated that open source software is critical for “digital democracy” and will make it much easier for regular individuals to have access to technology.
Vaishnaw and the Uttar Pradesh government also launched the MyGov portal in the state.
