The Digital University Kerala (DUK) and Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET) will launch a centre of excellence (CoE) for manufacturing intelligent internet of things (IIoT) sensors near the Maker Village in Kochi. The ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) has approved the setting up of the CoE worth Rs 4.1 million, which will be established with the support of the Kerala Startup Mission.

According to the government, the MeitY will fund the project with the state IT department for establishing a first-of-its-kind integrated facility for sensor manufacturing and indigenous development of IoT products in India.

The CoE will have state-of-the-art facilities for manufacturing sensors, developing artificial intelligence software, test products according to national/international standards, and qualify them according to national/international standards.

Specifically, it will develop indigenous products and solutions that can cater to the spectrum of industries using IIoT Sensors.

Besides incubating startups in IIoT sensors, the centre will promote innovation and entrepreneurship through design challenges, outreach programs, and incubation grants, according to the announcement.
