Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is in preliminary discussions with Starlink to explore potential collaboration opportunities in satellite backhaul and enterprise service offerings.

A senior official said that discussions are still at an early stage and no agreement has been finalised so far, leaving scope for further deliberations.

According to him, satellite backhaul offers a practical solution for extending 4G and 5G connectivity to rural areas in India. He noted that laying optical fibre to mobile towers in remote and hilly regions involves extensive digging work, which can often take years to complete.
