India and Vietnam have agreed to broaden collaboration across frontier technologies, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, robotics, biotechnology and cybersecurity, during talks between the union minister of state for science and technology and his Vietnamese counterpart in New Delhi.

Held under the comprehensive strategic partnership framework, the discussions centred on strengthening institutional mechanisms for joint research, innovation-driven collaboration and closer engagement between the startup ecosystems of the two countries.

Welcoming the Vietnamese delegation, the Indian minister described the two nations as civilisational partners with nearly 2,000 years of shared history, and said the partnership had gained renewed momentum following the Vietnamese prime minister’s visit to India in August 2024. He underlined Vietnam’s significance in India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific vision, and noted that India-ASEAN cooperation in science and innovation provides a strong foundation for future collaboration.

The minister also proposed deeper linkages between startups, innovators and research institutions in both countries, pointing to India’s expanding entrepreneurial ecosystem. Officials noted that around ten Vietnamese researchers have already benefited from the India-ASEAN Research and Training Fellowship programme, with several joint projects currently under way.

Additionally, both sides reviewed preparations for the next India-Vietnam joint committee meeting and held discussions on startup exchanges, co-innovation centres and industry-linked research partnerships.
