According to the union minister of electronics and IT, ASML is actively exploring potential partnerships with Indian companies. The company manufactures the world’s most advanced lithography machines, which play a crucial role in converting silicon wafers into semiconductor chips.

Under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0, the government is focusing on building a strong domestic ecosystem. This includes strengthening capabilities in chip design, as well as in materials, equipment, chemicals and gases required for semiconductor manufacturing. The second phase of the programme is currently in the preparatory stage. An allocation of Rs10 billion has been made for ISM 2.0 in the Union Budget for 2026-27.

Earlier this year, in January, a delegation led by the minister visited ASML’s headquarters in Veldhoven to better understand its technology. The company’s machines are set to be used at the Tata Electronics-PSMC semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera.
