The government of Tamil Nadu has signed two separate memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Japanese electronics company MinebeaMitsumi and Bengaluru-based Aequs Group, involving a combined investment of Rs 59.8 billion.

According to an official release, the projects are expected to generate employment for 8,400 people across the semiconductor and aerospace sectors.

NMB Minebea India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Japan’s MinebeaMitsumi, has committed an investment of Rs 19.8 billion to set up a manufacturing and research and development centre in Tiruvallur district. The facility, to be established at the Mahindra Origins Industrial Park, will focus on building a complete manufacturing ecosystem for high value semiconductors, including insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBT) and integrated circuits (IC), along with motors and sensors.

The project is expected to create 1,400 jobs, with over 40 per cent of the positions earmarked for highly skilled technical personnel, the release said.

Separately, Aequs Group has committed Rs 40 billion to strengthen the state’s aerospace manufacturing capacity at the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT)-Shoolagiri Industrial Park in Krishnagiri district. The company plans to establish a dedicated aerospace and defence manufacturing cluster to produce aircraft engines, gearbox components and precision engineering parts. This initiative is projected to create employment for 7,000 people.
