The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has reportedly sought government approval to scale up the base-station capacity of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) by nearly 25 per cent. The proposed addition of around 23,000 sites, planned for execution in the next financial year, would increase BSNL’s total base-station count to approximately 123,000.
This expansion will reportedly require additional funding. The funding requirement is expected to be accommodated within the Rs 470 billion capital expenditure earmarked by the government for the next financial year.
