According to IDC, India’s smartphone market is headed for a sharper decline than earlier anticipated. The research firm has cut its 2025 shipment forecast to below 150 million units, down from the earlier estimate of around 151 million, as demand weakens this quarter amid rising component costs and currency pressure. The slump is now expected to spill into 2026.

IDC warned that higher prices will severely curb demand, especially in the entry-level and mid-range segments, where devices may get 5-7 per cent costlier. Shipments in the December quarter are expected to fall sharply, pulling full-year 2025 volumes below 2024 levels. It is expected that prices continue climbing until mid-2026, with a potential rebound only in the second half of 2026.
