Ciena has agreed to acquire Nubis Communications in an all-cash transaction valued at $270 million. The Nubis portfolio includes co-packaged optics (CPO) and near-packaged optics (NPO) capable of up

to 6.4 terabits per second (Tbps) of full-duplex bandwidth, which will pair with Ciena’s high-speed SerDes to meet high-performance connectivity demands inside and between racks. Meanwhile, Nubis’ advanced analog electronics enable active copper cables (ACC) to carry data up to 4 metres at 200 gigabits per second (Gbps) per lane.

As per Nubis, this deal with Ciena broadens its high-speed interconnect portfolio for data centres and brings in critical talent.

According to the joint statement, the acquisition will deepen Ciena’s capabilities inside the data centre, adding over 50 engineers with strong technical expertise and close cultural alignment with Ciena’s research and development team.

The transaction is expected to close in Ciena’s fiscal fourth quarter of 2025, subject to customary closing conditions.
