According to the telecom secretary, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has blocked more than 20 million phone connections linked to fraudulent activities and reduced spoof calls by 97 per cent through initiatives such as the Sanchar Saathi platform.
He said the department has developed a digital intelligence platform that enables financial institutions to crowdsource information and report frauds in the financial sector, helping generate actionable insights and strengthen cyber security.
DoT has also launched a financial fraud risk indicator in collaboration with partners, which has been successful in detecting mobile numbers involved in fraudulent activity. In addition, the department is working with private players to improve sector-specific and application-level security.
The secretary added that DoT plans to upgrade the centralised monitoring system as part of its efforts to enhance the country’s cyber security framework.
