Minister of state for Communications and Rural Development has directed four Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) circles to enhance service quality for subscribers, address mobile tower power issues, and expand the company’s footprint.
In late July, union minister of Communications and Development of Northeast Region had urged the BSNL to boost its customer base and grow its mobile services business by 50 per cent in 2025-26. During a review meeting with BSNL’s circle chief general managers (CGMs) and business heads, he also set targets to raise enterprise business revenue by 25-30 per cent and fixed-line business by 15-20 per cent. However, BSNL continues to trail private sector rivals that already offer 4G and commercial 5G services.
Additionally, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, MoS stated that, as of June 30, 2025, BSNL had installed 95,537 4G sites, with 90,035 of them currently operational. The equipment, he added, is further technologically upgradable to 5G.
