CtrlS Datacenters has reportedly emphasised the need for India to develop additional data centre cities to meet the growing computing demands driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G technologies.
The company stated that while measures such as allotting land at market rates and waiving stamp duty are helpful, more substantial efforts are required to support greenfield data centre projects.
A surge in demand for computing power, driven by AI, 5G network expansion, the internet of things (IoT), and cloud computing, has prompted companies such as CtrlS, Sify Technologies, ST Telemedia GDC, Yotta Data Services, Nxtra by Airtel, ESDS, and Equinix to establish data centres of varying capacities across the country.
CtrlS also pointed out that countries like China and the United States are rapidly building large language models (LLMs), which heavily rely on robust data centre infrastructure.
