The Information and technology Minister, government of Goa, has announced the launch of the ‘Har Ghar Fibre’ scheme, designed to bring high-speed internet access to each household across the coastal state.
While presenting the demands for grants related to information technology, electronics, and communications in the state assembly, he stated that the initial implementation of the scheme would begin as a pilot in Porvorim, Sankhalim, and Bicholim, all of which are in North Goa.
Further, to improve last-mile service delivery, four new common service centres (CSCs) will be set up in Darbandora (South Goa), and in Valpoi, Panjim, and Porvorim (North Goa), aiming to enhance digital access for citizens in both urban and rural parts of the state.
Additionally, as part of the Goa broadband network (GBBN), a total of 414 sites has already been connected, comprising 189 village panchayats and 225 government offices which together support a secure network for more than 1,500 government and institutional locations across the state.
The Minister also mentioned that the public can make use of free Wi-Fi at 137 hotspots established across all 40 constituencies, with site selection guided by input from local members of the legislative assembly (MLAs).
