According to the Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, the central government is reportedly planning to install 4,000 new telecom towers for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in naxalite-affected areas of Chhattisgarh to enhance digital connectivity.
The Minister is assessing various central government initiatives, including the aspirational district programme and key projects under the ministries of telecom and rural development. He also presided over a high-level review meeting with senior officials from the Department of Rural Development (DoRD), Department of Posts (DoP), Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and BSNL in Raipur.
Further, the minister noted that the rollout of BSNL towers would take place in phases, following mandatory clearances from the forest department and security agencies.
Moreover, he highlighted that developmental efforts in naxalite-impacted areas are being carried out in “mission mode,” and a strategy is being crafted to ensure doorstep delivery of services in these regions.
