Siemens has secured two contracts worth Rs 77.3 billion from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MAHA-METRO) to provide advanced signalling and telecommunication solutions for the Nagpur Metro Rail project. The execution period for both projects is approximately 42 months
The projects include the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of communication-based train control (CBTC) signalling technology for phase 2 of the Nagpur Metro Rail Project (including augmentation of Phase 1) and advanced telecommunication technologies for the same phase.
Further, the contracts cover 32 stations across a 43.8-kilometre metro network. Siemens’ technologies are aimed at increasing train frequency, improving the passenger experience and ensuring top-tier safety standards.
According to the company, the deployed systems will enable 100 per cent punctuality, reduce energy consumption and optimise headways, all while maintaining the highest level of operational safety throughout the metro network.
