Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has awarded a Rs 64.47 billion contract to Polycab India Limited (Ploycab) for the development and maintenance of a middle-mile broadband network under the BharatNet phase-III initiative in the Karnataka, Goa, and Puducherry telecom circle.
According to regulatory filings, the project includes Rs 37.41 billion in capital expenditure and Rs 22.45 billion in operating expenditure for the new network, along with Rs 4.60 billion allocated for the upkeep of existing infrastructure.
Part of India’s flagship rural broadband programme, BharatNet aims to provide equitable broadband access to all telecom service providers. Earlier, BSNL has awarded contracts to Polycab, ITI Limited, Sterlite Technologies (STL), Telecommunications Consultants of India Limited (TCIL), and Pratap Technocrats, among others, in executing multiple packages under phase-III of the initiative.
