Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) has partnered with Ericsson to build its next gen 5G infrastructure for 5G rollout in Delhi-NCR. The infrastructure offers enhanced energy efficiency and lighter hardware. Vi has also deployed artificial intelligence (Al)-powered self-organising network (SON) technology to further optimise network performance and uses a 5G non-standalone (NSA) architecture, ensuring smooth transitions between 4G and 5G for users’ seamless experience.
Vi launched its high-speed 5G services in Delhi NCR from May 15, 2025, marking a major milestone in its nationwide 5G rollout. The capital region joined Vi’s growing 5G footprint as part of the initial phase of the roll out, which has already seen launches in Mumbai, Chandigarh and Patna. Moreover, the telco is all set to roll out 5G in all 17 priority circles, where it has acquired 5G spectrum, by August this year.
The telco’s 5G rollout in 17 circles is a part of its Rs 550 billion capex planned over three years. Cities like Bengaluru and Mysuru are next on the map, with rollouts underway across other key markets in the remaining circles. In Mumbai, 70 per cent of eligible users are already experiencing Vi’s 5G services and about 20 per cent of its data traffic is already being carried on the 5G network.
Vi is building a future-ready, high-capacity network designed to deliver seamless, fast connectivity to meet the evolving demands of digital India. By expanding its 5G infrastructure and unlocking next-generation connectivity experiences for millions, Vi is set to further enable digital India -empowering both consumers and enterprises through advanced mobile technologies, smart applications, and industry-grade solutions.
