Tata Electronics has reportedly commenced the assembly of iPhone models, including the latest iPhone 16 and iPhone 16e, at its Hosur facility, marking a major step towards becoming a key player in the global smartphone supply chain, long dominated by Taiwanese firms such as Foxconn.
The Hosur site previously focused solely on manufacturing iPhone enclosures. The facility currently houses two assembly lines, with plans to expand to four. Each line can employ over 2,500 workers and handle end-to-end phone assembly. Once fully operational, the Hosur unit is expected to surpass the scale of Apple’s Wistron plant in India.
Meanwhile, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (Foxconn), Apple’s primary iPhone assembler, has planned to inject $1.5 billion into its India operations as part of its broader effort to diversify production away from China. The Taiwan-based company disclosed the investment, made via its Singaporean subsidiary, in an exchange filing on May 19, 2025. Additionally, the bulk of India-made iPhones are assembled at Hon Hai’s factory in southern India.
