Donald Trump, president, the USA, does not want iPhones for the U.S. market to be manufactured in India. Meanwhile, he has asserted that India has agreed to eliminate all tariffs on American goods, reiterating his long-standing criticism of India’s trade practices.
Apple had earlier stated that the company would be sourcing the bulk of iPhones sold in the U.S. from India during the June quarter, while China would continue to manufacture most of the units intended for other international markets, amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding U.S. tariff policies.
Despite the criticism, trade relations appear to be progressing. Further, Trump has previously mentioned that bilateral trade negotiations with India are coming along great and he was optimistic about finalising a trade deal.
