Jio Platforms Limited, in collaboration with Nokia, AMD, and Cisco, has introduced an open artificial intelligence (AI) platform tailored for the telecommunications sector.
Announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the initiative aims to provide AI-driven solutions that enhance efficiency, security, and operational capabilities while unlocking new revenue streams for telecom operators. According to a joint statement by the companies, the Open Telecom AI Platform will initially be deployed by Jio, serving as a reference model for global telecom providers.
The platform is designed to establish a central intelligence layer across multiple domains, including radio access networks (RAN), routing, AI data centres, security, and telecommunications. It will incorporate AI and automation at every stage of network operations to drive smarter, more efficient processes.
With an open architecture, the platform will be Large Language Model (LLM) agnostic and integrate open application programming interfaces (APIs) to maximise its adaptability. It will utilise a combination of agentic AI, LLMs, domain-specific Small Language Models (SLMs), and non- generative AI (GenAI) machine learning techniques to deliver intelligent, end-to-end network management and optimisation.
Further, by enhancing network performance, reliability, security, and user experience, the Open Telecom AI Platform is set to facilitate the development and commercialisation of AI-powered telecom solutions.
