Dr Dharmesh Chotalia Associate Director–Business Development, Evonik India

Dr Dharmesh Chotalia is associate director – business development for the granules and compounds product line of high-performance polymers at Evonik India. He is a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in the polymer industry. His extensive background in marketing and business development has positioned him as a key thought leader in steering strategic growth and novelty in the high-performance polymers sector.

He has been associated with Evonik India for the past 12 years. In his current role, he is responsible for spearheading business development efforts, articulating long-term strategies and identifying market opportunities within the high-performance polymers division.

Dr Chotalia believes that the Indian telecom sector is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by rapid technological advancements and significant shifts in market dynamics. “This year, the sector is placing increased importance on semiconductor technology, which is crucial for the development and improvement of telecommunications. A focus on cybersecurity, and the emergence of artificial intelligence and sustainability are some of the other key trends that I believe will shape the telecom sector’s future. These trends reflect the sector’s ability to adapt to new technological realities and meet consumer demands,” he adds.

When asked about his most memorable assignment, he recalls a prestigious Indian government defense initiative, where he played a pivotal role in supplying Evonik’s Polyamide 12 for the outer jacket of optical fibre cables. “The choice of material came on the back of its exceptional properties and superior performance,” he adds.

He likes to describe his management style as  decisive and consultative. “While I believe in providing clear direction and structure to my team, I also value their input and encourage open communication. I prioritise team development and project management, ensuring that everyone is aligned with the goals and objectives of the project,” he says.

Dr Chotalia holds a bachelor’s degree in Polymer Engineering and a post graduate degree in Marketing Management. He also has a doctorate in Management Studies with a specialisation in Polymer Engineering.

Outside of his professional life, Dr Chotalia enjoys reading. He is a sports enthusiast. His family comprises his wife, who is involved in the investment business; and their two children – a daughter and a son.
