Bharti Airtel has made a prepayment of Rs 84.65 billion to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for 173.8 MHz of spectrum acquired in 2016.

This move aims to reduce interest expenses and increase liquidity as the company enhances its 4G network and expands its 5G services.

Most of the payment was sourced from Airtel’s cash flow, with a minor portion financed through bank loans at lower interest rates. This prepayment also partially addresses outstanding dues related to spectrum assets acquired from Videocon in 2016.

Previously, Airtel had total dues of Rs 142.44 billion, which were deferred under a telecom relief package from the government in 2021.
