The US Department of State is collaborating with India’s Semiconductor Mission, a part of the Ministry of Electronics and IT, to explore ways to diversify the global semiconductor ecosystem. This initiative is part of the International Technology Security and Innovation (ITSI) Fund, which was established by the CHIPS Act of 2022to bolster domestic semiconductor research and manufacturing in the United States.

The first phase of this partnership involves a thorough assessment of India’s semiconductor landscape, its regulatory framework, workforce requirements, and infrastructure needs. This analysis will engage key stakeholders in India, including state governments, educational institutions, research centres, and private companies, and will be guided by the India semiconductor mission. The findings from this assessment will inform potential collaborative efforts aimed at bolstering the semiconductor sector.

The goal of this partnership is to create a more resilient and secure global semiconductor supply chain, benefiting both the US and India. As both nations work together, they aim to ensure that the semiconductor supply chain can effectively support the ongoing digital transformation and meet the growing demand for essential products reliant on semiconductor technology.
