The Goods and Service Tax Appellate Authority has reduced Bharti Airtel’s goods and services tax (GST) demand to Rs 1.94 billion from Rs 6.04 billion as assessed by the tax authorities after the telco challenged it.

Airtel had earlier filed an appeal against the Appellate Authority for the demand of Rs 6.04 billion under the reverse charge mechanism on license fee and spectrum usage charges basis the demand note issued by the Department of Telecommunications. Following the appeal, the Authority has now passed an order to reduce the demand to Rs 1.94 billion.
