The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has been allotted Rs 219.36 billion in the budget estimate of 2024-25 as compared to Rs 144.21 billion, the revised budget estimate of 2023-24, showing an increase of 52 per cent.
This increase can be attributed largely to MeitY’s capital allocation towards the Modified Programme for Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystem in India, which saw a 355 per cent increase to Rs 69.03 billion, compared to Rs 15.03billion in 2023-24.
Further, the government has also allocated Rs 5.51 billion for IndiaAl mission to boost the country’s artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
Furthermore, no funds have been allocated to Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA) PLI schemes for large scale electronics or IT hardware. In addition, no funds have also been allotted for the promotion of digital payments in 2024-25, as compared to Rs 5.84 billion in 2023-24.
