The telecom operators have submitted reports  to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) specifying the actions taken by them to reduce call drops. The operators have given details about network optimisation, addition of new sites in problem areas, conduction of drive tests and other steps taken by them to reduce call drops. DoT is examining the reports to see if the steps taken by the operators are satisfactory or if further action is required.

As per the report submitted by Bharti Airtel for the Delhi circle, the operator has added 100 2G and 3G sites each, apart from capacity addition on various sites between June 2015 and July 2015. The company has also installed in-building solution in North Block while four sites have been added in Lutyens zone. Vodafone added 190 new sites in Delhi  during the same period. Meanwhile, Idea Cellular has added a total of 3,700 2G sites between April 2015 and July 2015.

The Ministry of Communications and IT had earlier ordered a special audit of whether operators are focusing on network performance related service parameters to check call drops. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had already laid down the benchmark for call drop rate to be less than two per cent. However, most of the operators have failed to meet this benchmark.
