The Ministry of Communications and IT has asked the Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) for statistics and information on number of towers installed between March 31, 2013 and March 31, 2015 across the country. The move comes with a view to assess the cause of frequent call drops.
The telecom industry is of the view that the call drops are largely caused due to the continuing challenges of installing mobile towers coupled with spectrum shortage amid surging data traffic growth.
However, the ministry is of the view that the spectrum available to operators is not scarce, and has asked the mobile phone carriers to improve efficiencies to provide better services.
