Uninor has started offering free Wikipedia access to its subscribers in order to get more and more of its subscribers onto the internet. The offer, which was launched on April 1, 2015, will be valid for three months. The telecom operator is targeting to bring 50 per cent of its users onto the internet and has been taking steps for achieving the same? free Wikipedia access being one of them.
As part of the programme, the operator will also engage with students and teachers to spread awareness on digital literacy, with a special focus on Wikipedia, in the rural areas. The operator has already launched free Wikipedia service in Bangladesh, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar and Montenegro.
