Chinese smartphone vendor Huawei has targeted sales of two million smartphones in India in 2015, driven by the massive growth the segment being witnessed in the country. With this target, the company is planning to achieve revenue target of $2 billion from the Indian market by 2017. The company has sold more than 0.6 million smartphones in the country in 2014.

The company has set a target to be among the top five smartphone brands in India by 2017. Huawei is of the view that their consumer business and enterprise segment will play an important role in achieving this growth. The company?s Indian subsidiary had posted revenues of $800 million in 2013, while revenue for 2014 has yet not been disclosed.

According to the company, the main hurdle being witnessed in the telecom industry has been the lack of adequate spectrum.  This has been the reason why India has lagged in the mobile broadband segment as compared to other countries. However, Huawei postulates that the next 15 years in the Indian telecom industry will be focused on mobile broadband.
