
The government, in its Railway Budget, has announced that it will rollout Wi-Fi networks in select 400 category-B railway stations across the country. Further, the government is planning to introduce SMS alerts about rail timings and other related information.
At present, there are two Wi-Fi enabled stations- New Delhi and Bengaluru- where users can access Wi-Fi for free for a limited time.
The government has announced a 24×7 railway helpline to be available on real time basis to allow the passengers to call this number even while on trains. Further, it is developing a mobile application to redress complaints and a pilot project for this will begin in the Northern Railway from March 1, 2015. Meanwhile, the government will also promote eGovernance in railways through various initiatives.
