Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL), under the MTS brand, is targeting the Wi-Fi market in India. The company is planning to offer Wi-Fi services that are cheaper than GSM-based 3G network to the residential customers. To this end, SSTL will launch a plug and play Wi-Fi solution for its residential business at a price of Rs 1,299 under the Homespot Instant Wi-Fi programme.

The solution will be available with various data plans for both prepaid and postpaid customers who will be able to connect five devices simultaneously to Internet. Under the prepaid plan, the customers will get 5 GB of data access for a monthly rental of Rs 499 along with free usage of WhatsApp and Viber.

With the new offering, SSTL is planning to target small cities and towns, where fixed-line connectivity is limited. Meanwhile, SSTL is targeting about 50 per cent of its revenues from data services.
